TAMPA, Fla. December 15, 2004 – The American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP) is pleased to introduce its new monthly electronic newsletter, “AAKP Public Policy Briefing.” This newsletter is devoted to those who are interested in learning about public policy and important news in government that affects kidney patients. Beginning in January 2005, AAKP will electronically transmit “AAKP Public Policy Briefing” on the last Monday of each month. The newsletter will feature important legislative developments, current public policy issues and resources needed to become an effective public policy advocate. “By informing patients about the latest developments and changes in public policy, AAKP hopes to promote patient involvement in issues that affect healthcare,” said AAKP President Brenda Dyson. “We at AAKP strive to provide timely and appropriate information to kidney patients, as well as their families and friends, that allow them to make educated decisions about the future of their healthcare.” AAKP is the voluntary, patient organization, which for 35 years, has been dedicated to improving the lives of fellow kidney patients and their families by helping them deal with the physical, emotional and social impact of kidney disease. The programs offered by AAKP inform and inspire patients and their families to better understand their condition, adjust more readily to their circumstances and assume more normal, productive lives in their communities.
