AAKP Presents Todd Ing, MD, with Medal of Excellence Award

Tampa, Fla., March 17, 2008 – The American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP) presented Todd Ing, MD, with the 2008 Medal of Excellence Award on Sunday, March 16, at the Renaissance Austin Hotel in Austin, Texas. Each year AAKP recognizes a renal physician who stands out among the best. The Medal of Excellence Award winner is chosen for his or her commitment to patient services, research, and patient and professional education.

Dr. Ing is currently courtesy staff physician in the Department of Medicine at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Hines, Ill., as well as Professor Emeritus of Medicine at Loyola University Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine. He is also a key member of the renal community, both nationally and internationally with his current and prior appointments to the editorial boards for Kidney, Hong Kong Journal of Nephrology, Hemodialysis International and Peritoneal Dialysis International.

“Dr. Ing has unselfishly given to the kidney community for more than 25 years. Because of his hard work, countless numbers of patients are living rewarding lives and receiving quality care,” said AAKP President Roberta Wager, RN, MSN. “He is definitely deserving of the AAKP Medal of Excellence Award.”

Dr. Ing authored more than 250 publications in the area of dialysis with emphasis on isolated ultrafiltration, complications of dialysis, dialysate composition and peritoneal dialysis.  He is also co-editor of the Handbook of Dialysis, which has been translated into nine different languages and is widely used around the world.

The Medal of Excellence Award Dinner was a spectacular success with physicians, colleagues and friends on hand to congratulate Dr. Ing on receiving this prestigious award.

AAKP honored Dr. Ing and the 2008 nominees during the Renal Physicians Association’s Annual Meeting. Visit the "Educational Programs & Events" section of the AAKP Web site for more information about the Medal of Excellence Award
