AAKP Seeks Nominations for Annual Awards

Tampa, Fla. - May 12, 2008 The American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP) is currently seeking nominations for its 2008 Annual Awards. The awards recognize individuals who have made a significant contribution to the renal community and commitment to carrying out the mission of AAKP. Award winners are honored at the 35th Annual AAKP Convention held in Washington, D.C., from Aug. 28 - 31.

Annual Award categories include:

  • Peter Lundin, MD Award recognizes a renal physician who makes contributions to the care, welfare and well-being of patients.
  • Samuel J. Orenstein Award is presented to an AAKP member who consistently provides extraordinary service to achieving AAKP's goals.
  • Josephine Berman Award honors a patient or family member who strives to achieve AAKP's goals and continues to inspire others.
  • Caregiver Award is bestowed upon the caregiver who has gone above and beyond.

AAKP is proud to introduce the new AAKP Volunteer of the Year Award. This award is presented to an individual who has played a vital role throughout the year in the activities of AAKP.

Another popular award is the AAKP Patient Comeback of the Year Award, which honors a patient who has overcome major obstacles and displayed extraordinary courage and determination to take charge of his/her care and resume a productive life.

"The AAKP Annual Awards are a wonderful way to recognize the individuals who work so diligently to educate others about kidney disease and spread the word about AAKP," said AAKP President, Roberta Wager, RN, MSN. "These volunteers are what drive this organization."

Nomination forms are available by contacting AAKP at (800) 749-AAKP or by visiting the AAKP Web site, www.aakp.org/events, and clicking on the "AAKP Annual Convention" link. To be considered, all nominations must be post marked and mailed to AAKP no later than Monday, June 30, 2008. Self nominations are both encouraged and accepted.
