Tampa, Fla., August 28, 2006 -- Today the American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP) invited kidney patients and their families to explore its new patient-friendly Web site: www.aakp.org. The site features a new look with emphasis on specialized renal related content, easy to use navigation, search functions and a new interactive section. The site also includes a new library, which contains past and present published information from AAKP; pages dedicated to chronic kidney disease (CKD), dialysis, transplant and pediatric kidney disease information; and AAKP Chapter events going on across the country. “We wanted to update our Web site look, as well as make the site as easy as possible for patients to get the information they need,” says AAKP CEO and Executive Director Kris Robinson. “It is truly a patient-friendly site, with emphasis on allowing the patient to be the leader of his or her own healthcare.” This is just a portion of the revamped site. AAKP will unveil its patient interactive section of the site September 1, 2006, during its National Convention in Orlando, Florida. AAKP My Health™ allows patients to keep a record of their doctor visits, medication and lab test results online. “In the wake of natural disasters such as historical devastating hurricane Katrina, AAKP My Health™ provides patients with a method to produce their medical records anywhere internet access is available,” says AAKP President Donald Dowe. “And that can prevent medical mistakes and save lives.” This is a free service to renal patients. The information patients enter into the site is stored in a secure location. Only the patient who enters the information will have access to it unless he/she shares it with a caregiver. Log on today towww.aakp.org for more information about AAKP My Health™.
AAKP is the voluntary, patient organization, which for more than 35 years, has been dedicated to improving the lives of fellow kidney patients and their families by helping them deal with the physical, emotional and social impact of kidney disease.
