Tip of the Month: Holiday Foods to Limit

With the holidays coming up, it's important for kidney patients to practice moderation when enjoying some holiday treats. Limit these holiday foods as they may be high in phosphorus, sodium, potassium, sugar and protein:

  • Avocado
  • Dried Fruit
  • Fruit Cake
  • Chocolate
  • Gingerbread
  • Macaroons
  • Mincemeat Pie
  • Nuts
  • Pecan Pie
  • Pumpkin Pie
  • Smoked or Cured Ham
  • Spinach
  • Commercially Prepared Stuffing
  • Self-Basting Turkey
  • Winter Squash
  • Yams/Sweet Potatoes

Please talk to your dietitian about what holiday diet best suits you so you can enjoy the holidays while maintaining a kidney friendly diet.
