Solving the Diet Dilemma for Children on Dialysis

Motivating a child on dialysis to make the right nutrition choices can be difficult. Most children and teens would rather be eating pizza and cheeseburgers. Here are some suggestions of how to get your child excited about following his or her renal diet:

  • Offer Rewards for Positive Efforts.
  • Provide an Appropriate Environment to Promote Success.
  • Allow for "Cheat Treats".

Diet issues in children and teens on dialysis can be difficult and may take time. For more of these helpful hints, please visit the AAKP Web site.
