Diet Impacts Brain Function in Seniors with Type 2 Diabetes

A study published in Nutrition Research found adults with type 2 diabetes who eat unhealthy, high fat meals may experience memory declines immediately afterward. Prior research also showed evidence of a link between diabetes and cognitive complications in humans.

Researchers found taking antioxidant vitamins C and E with meals may reduce memory loss. However, individuals should not rely on antioxidant vitamins at meal time as they are not a quick fix.

Diabetics should maintain a healthy lifestyle that includes regular exercise and a low fat diet rich in antioxidants. Staying mentally and socially active is the best medicine for maintaining cognitive health.
