Salt May Be Culprit for Uncontrolled Blood Pressure

According to a new study in the journal, Hypertension, people with high blood pressure that is not controlled by multiple medications are probably eating too much salt. During the study, individuals with this resistant hypertension showed dramatic reduction in their blood pressure when they cut their salt intake sharply.

Researchers cut study participants' salt intake down to 1.15 grams per day, although the limited amount would be extremely difficult for people to achieve in a real world setting because food supplies have so much sodium. Researchers encouraged individuals to stop adding salt during cooking and at the table, and to pay attention to food labels.
