According to a study in the American Journal of Managed Care, peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients have lower health care costs. They are also less likely to require hospitalization than hemodialysis patients. The study, funded by Baxter Healthcare, found median health care costs for PD patients were $43,500 lower than those for hemodialysis patients.
