Pilot Study Done to Better Diagnose Restless Legs Syndrome in Dialysis Patients

Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is commonly seen in dialysis patients, but there are currently no tests to properly diagnose the condition. Information about a pilot study to better diagnose RLS was recently published in the American Journal of Kidney Diseases.

A test called the suggested immobilization test (SIT) was performed during dialysis for at least 30 minutes and periodic limb movements (PLMs) were assessed for each patient and changes in leg movement were measured.

The study found this new method is a valid method to diagnose RLS and effectively treat dialysis patients.
