AAKP recently sent a letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' (CMS) Chronic Care Policy Group to express its opinion regarding the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA) and how it will affect end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients. While AAKP supports Congress' efforts to shift Medicare's payment systems to focus more on high quality of care, the organization is concerned bundling changes may increase barriers to care for kidney patients.
AAKP requested Congress and CMS create controls to ensure all patients have access to high quality care when it comes to dialysis treatment options, medications and facility access.
