A recent study in the Oxford Journals aimed to find out why patients chose self-care dialysis (SCD) instead of in-center hemodialysis. Researchers studied about 70 patients and had them complete a questionnaire in which they described the advantages of SCD. Participants in the study also indicated their preferred dialysis modality.
 
The results of the study showed patients chose SCD because it offered the best quality of life, freedom, lifestyle and control in their healthcare.
