AAKP is excited to feature Shire Pharmaceuticals' online educational video about hyperphosphatemia on its Web site, www.aakp.org.
Hyperphosphatemia is a condition in which the phosphorus levels in the blood rise and can lead to serious illness, mineral deposits in heart and blood vessels, and bone disease. Individuals with kidney disease must monitor how much phosphorus they take in from food and beverages because their kidneys no longer filter out excess minerals such as phosphorus.
The video includes information about hyperphosphatemia and managing phosphorus through diet, and a cooking demonstration by celebrity chef, Katie Lee Joel, at the 2006 AAKP Annual Convention in Orlando, FL.
