The 35th Annual AAKP Convention was a wonderful success, attracting 300 individuals from all over the country. The educational sessions were well attended, especially The Great Debate: The Ethics of Buying and Selling Organs.
This popular session featured a debate between Drs. Amy L. Friedman, MD, FACS, and Thomas G. Peters, MD, FACS, FASN. These prominent transplant surgeons discussed the ins and outs of financial incentives for organ donation. Drs. Friedman and Peters also talked about whether such incentives were ethical since not all potential recipients would be able to pay for an organ.
