Do Patients Need to Stay in School to Get a Kidney Transplant?

Many factors contribute to receiving a kidney transplant. In a new issue of the American Journal of Kidney Disease (AJKD), researchers examined the effect educational status, which is one component of socioeconomic status, has on access to a transplant.

The findings of the study are cautionary, stating the patient's educational level is associated with better access to kidney transplantation. It may be concluded educational achievement is one aspect to socioeconomic status that varies in transplant referrals around the country.

This article originally appeared in the July 2008 issue of Kidney Transplant Today.
