Weight Gain Even Within Normal Range Increases Risk of CKD

Healthy individuals who gain weight, even while still remaining in the normal weight range, are at risk for developing chronic kidney disease (CKD), according to a study in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (JASN). This news suggests CKD should be added to the list of conditions associated with weight gain, including diabetes and hypertension.

Physicians who conducted the study stated avoidance of weight gain, even among lean individuals, is important to reduce the risk for kidney disease.
