A recent study published in PLoS Medicine suggested elderly patients with damaged kidneys are at a greater risk of cardiovascular disease, such as heart failure and stroke. The findings indicate efforts should be made to encourage elderly people who have decreased kidney function, and other risk factors such as high cholesterol and high blood pressure, to make lifestyle changes to avoid developing cardiovascular problems.
