Kidney disease is a growing problem in the United States and, certain minorities, including African, Asian, Hispanic and Native Americans are at a higher risk for developing conditions that lead to kidney failure than the general population. The main causes of kidney disease, diabetes and hypertension, are also more common among minorities.
Studies show early detection and treatment can stop or slow the progression of kidney disease. It is recommended that people in these at-risk groups get regular screenings for high blood pressure and diabetes, and make lifestyle changes, such as diet and exercise, to help prevent kidney disease.
