May 2007

This month in your mailbox you will receive the AAKP Spring Appeal from our president, Bobbi Wager. Bobbi is a two time transplant recipient who has an incredible story to tell. But equally important is her asking you to make a contribution to AAKP this month.

Why does AAKP ask for dollars? Why do we turn to you to help fund patient programs?

AAKP does a great deal of work on the small amounts of money we raise. For every dollar you give less than 13 cents goes to administrative costs. We keep our overhead as low as possible to put our funding into such important patient programs as aakpRENALIFE, Kidney Beginnings: The Magazine, Kidney Beginnings: Live educational sessions, our five free Internet newsletters, the brochures and books we offer, public policy and the Annual Convention. Without donors, many of these programs would not exist.

Sometimes potential donors say to me they can only send $5 or $10. I tell them, “Wonderful! A small gift is just as important as a large one!” For example, $5 will enable us to send packages of urgent patient education materials to two different people who have just found out they have kidney failure. Or $10 will enable many people to call our 1-800 phone number to ask questions and learn about life with kidney disease.

Giving a gift to AAKP, no matter what the size, is one of the most rewarding things you can do. You already know the benefits that AAKP has given to you, now your gift can provide those same benefits to fellow patients who need our help and support.

Each time I receive an appeal letter in the mail I, too, make a donation to AAKP. That’s how strongly I feel about the work we do on behalf of fellow patients.

Please join me at now by clicking here to make a donation to our many AAKP programs and to make a difference in one patient’s life.

Thank you for your generosity.
