March 15, 2010
It is with a heavy heart I write this Executive Director message. For a little more than a year, I have had the honor of serving AAKP as its Executive Director; and for more than 10 years I have worked for AAKP in one capacity or another. Earlier this month, on March 5, I made a difficult decision and submitted my resignation to the AAKP Board of Directors. I have accepted a position with a cancer institute in Tampa in its Education and Patient Advisory Program. My last day is April 15.
This new position was an unexpected opportunity which is allowing me to continue my passion for patient education. This change is also an opportunity for AAKP to focus on its future goals and develop strategies in searching for new leadership offering fresh expertise while also maintaining a compassion for understanding the life-long journey experienced by those impacted by kidney disease.
AAKP serves a vital purpose and I have been honored to be part of that purpose. My entire career has been devoted to patient empowerment and as a patient myself, I fully recognize the importance and value of strong, patient education programs. AAKP thrives in this area and for several years I was fortunate to play a direct role in the development and enhancement of AAKP education programs.
Making the decision to leave was not an easy one as AAKP has played a large role in my life and career. I’m going to miss it, the hard working staff, committed members of the Board of Directors and Medical Advisory Board, and most importantly -- the people it serves. When you’ve been involved with something as important as AAKP for as long as I have been, it’s difficult to say good-bye. AAKP makes a difference and I’ve been honored to play my role.
Kind regards,
