Understanding the Connection: Anemia & Iron Deficiency

This conference call offers an overview of the meaning of anemia, causes of anemia in kidney patients and possible ways to help manage this condition. The following items are also discussed:
  

  • The partnership between iron and erythropoietin stimulating agents (ESA) to anemia management,
  • Understanding how iron and ESA are the building blocks of red blood cells,

Jay Wish, MD

Dr. Wish resides in Cleveland, OH and is Professor of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University and has served as Medical Director of Hemodialysis Services at University Hospitals of Cleveland since 1980. He is currently a member of AAKP's Board of Directors and Medical Advisory Board. Dr. Wish is extremely active within the renal community with his current and past positions of Chairman of the Medical Review Board of ESRD Network 9/10 and Chairman of the Clinical Practice Committee of the Renal Physicians Association as well as a current Board Member. Dr. Wish was also a member of the workgroup for the development of the NKF-DOQI Practice Guidelines for the management of anemia in patients with renal disease.
