In the past you were inspired to make a gift to the American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP), a national organization reaching one million kidney patients yearly. I ask you now to consider continuing your tradition in making a difference to kidney patients nationwide.
I have been involved with the AAKP Board of Directors for five years and last year I was elected as its president. As a patient, I have known the value of AAKP’s work and as a renal healthcare professional; I have witnessed positive changes in patients as they become involved in their healthcare. I truly believe we, as patients, are partners in our healthcare. And as partners, we must take an active role in ensuring we continue to receive the quality healthcare we deserve.
One of my passions during my term as president is to reach patients and physicians who spend countless hours dealing with kidney disease. I want us to reach the average patient who needs information about healthcare and the healthcare professional who practices every day in a dialysis unit and knows what we as patients experience. Most patients are just trying to take care of themselves, to make it through each day and to be there for their family. Talk of healthcare politics, clinical studies and such don’t solve the day-to-day challenges that most of us face. Our goal as patients is to resume the lives we had before we heard the news that our kidneys were failing.
Financial times are difficult for all of us. We spend our resources on clinic visits, co-pays and medications. And yet, I am asking you to also make a gift to AAKP. Why? We can only achieve our mission and help you and the thousands of other patients like you through generous donations. The majority of our funding comes from patients. This year, like you, costs are expensive. We urgently need your help.
Please join me in making a gift to AAKP to ensure we reach patients and healthcare professionals who face kidney disease every day; who are looking for answers as to how to make their kidney disease a part of their lives, but not their entire lives.
Thank you for believing in AAKP and supporting the hard work our volunteers do everyday. Your gift is vitally important, now more than ever.
Best Wishes,
Roberta “Bobbi” Wager, RN, MSN
