Holiday Foods to Limit

 

With the holiday season coming up, it’s important for kidney patients to practice moderation when enjoying some holiday treats. Please talk to your dietitian about what holiday diet best suits you. Limit these holiday foods as they may be high in phosphorus, sodium, potassium, sugar and protein:


• Avocado
• Baked Beans
• Bananas
• Beet Greens
• Chocolate
• Dried Fruit
• Fruit Cake
• Gingerbread
• Macaroons
• Mincemeat Pie
• Nuts
• Oranges
• Pecan Pie
• Pumpkin Pie
• Raisins
• Sausage
• Smoked or Cured Ham
• Smoked Meat or Fish
• Spinach
• Commercially Prepared Stuffing
• Self-Basting Turkey
• Tomato Juice
• V-8 Juice
• Winter Squash
• Yams/Sweet Potatoes
